Here it is, my scorpion beast submission for "The Beasts of 9 Creature Contest." After a couple weeks of planning and a week of building (along with a little blood and burns) it's finally finished. The body's 2' long, tail is 1' tall.
This beast, designed in the 'steampunk' style of the movie '9', walks on 8 legs made out of individual scissor blades. The body is a mix-match composition of hardware parts and canvas. The spine is a saw blade with a foot long nail latched to it with wire for support. Bent fan blades also line parts of the body to protect the inner workings.
The right arm is a set of rusty old garden shears, while the right is a garden tool covered in fish hooks used to catch its prey. The eye of the beast, along with a search light, is located on the tail, allowing for it to broaden it's range of vision. The head, part of the inner works on a broken fan, houses the soul 'source' device, used to suck the fragments of souls out of the sack puppets.
Over all, if it were to have a personality, I imagine it would be a quick machine. It would most likely catch a few sack puppets in its hooks, cut off their limbs to leave them defenseless, making it easier to go after the others, and eventually come back to take their soul shard.
There is a lot of detail in this piece of work, I did my best to capture most of it in the picture above. If you would like to see more detailed shots, here are the links:
I hope you've enjoyed my take on a creature from '9'. It was a lot of fun to design and build, and I even learned a little bit about prop building along the way. Thank you for viewing.
